The trees are changing in colour and the temperatures are starting to fall, autumn is here! As the leaves fall and the outside environment changes, many animals will be changing their respective routines to prepare for the on-coming colder period. Birds that have not migrated will be looking to establish safe and warm roosting areas and if any properties have the necessary defects, they will quickly become home. Rodents are already taking advantage of properties in many areas, with mice and rats having moved in and set up ever growing colonies. Squirrels are masters of invasion, managing to...

As the cooler weather and frosts have arrived, pests that have been living outdoors are now starting to look for warmer habitats and this means that many more home invasions will occur. The problem usually starts outside where that particular pest has found a weakness in the structure of the building that it can easily exploit. Ants need very small cracks...

There can be as many as 46 species of ladybirds living in the UK. Only 27 species actually look like ladybirds. They can be found just about anywhere in the Dorset area and this year I have seen them affecting homes in Bournemouth and Charminster as well as Poole and Verwood. Ladybirds only live for 1 year and the life cycle can be as follows: Between March and April the adults leave their respective overwintering sites to begin feeding on aphids. In May the male and females mate then in June the female will lay up to 1000 eggs which will hatch into larvae which will feed on aphids and then...
