Flies – Various Species
There are over 100,000 species of fly which normally live harmlessly outdoors during summer, but in autumn they will enter buildings – usually roof spaces and lofts, to hibernate in large numbers (cluster fly).
Cluster flies, sometimes know as attic flies, are difficult to eradicate because they like inaccessible spaces such as roof and wall cavities. They are also often seen on windows of little-used rooms.
Large gatherings of flies produce a rather sickly smell. If disturbed during hibernation by heat, they will emerge in a stupor in very large numbers.
N.B. It is not possible to treat for cluster flies if bats are also occupying the roof space.
Signs of a fly problem:-
- Annual fly infestations around autumn, where the same house or building may be chosen year after year.
- Flies clustering around windows.
