Grey Squirrel – (Sciurius carolinensis)

Squirrel
The Grey Squirrel is a common rodent with constantly growing teeth (incisors). Squirrels cause damage to tree bark, particularly beech and sycamore.
Squirrels are very adaptable, being able to survive in urban areas by feeding on bird feeders – surplus food is often buried for retrieval later.
Squirrel nests (dreys) are built in trees from twigs and leaves, but if found in properties any material can be used including loft insulation and even carrier bags!
Squirrels breed in December/January & May/June, with 1 – 2 litters per year and 1 – 5 young per litter.
