Ferndown in Dorset is located north of Poole and Bournemouth and the parish includes Hampreston, Longham, Stapehill and Tricketts Cross and in terms of population, is the fifth largest town in Dorset. It is believed that the name Ferndown came from the Anglo-Saxon word “Fiergen” which means wooded hill and up until 1925 many maps still showed it as two separate words. Today it still retains woodlands and heathlands around its borders and includes the communities of Longham, Hampreston, Stapehill and Tricketts Cross and is the largest town in East Dorset.
